WASHINGTON, DC—Peering halfway across the universe to analyze light from exploded stars which died long before our Sun even existed, NASA's Hubble Space Telescope has allowed astronomers to determine that the expansion of the cosmos has not slowed since the initial impetus of the Big Bang and, thus, should continue to balloon outward indefinitely. The distances can be more accurately measured using a spectrograph attached to a ground-based telescope. The project has been led by Professor Richard Griffiths and senior scientist Pokies - Echuca Kavan Ratnatunga. He searched for tiny ripples in the sky brightness that would indicate the presence of even more galaxies. The redder the overall cluster appears, the sledded distant it is, an assumption based on the apparent reddening of light — known as red shift — as stars and galaxies move away from us at high speeds. The assumption sledded that the excess galaxies all belong ... Read more »
